In the early 1940's, Valentino Maganzini traveled through Austrian mountain villages and towns near the Italian Alps providing knife sharpening service for businesses and homeowners. At the end of World War II, the international boundaries between Italy and Austria were redrawn by peace treaties, and Valentino found himself a resident of Italy facing a law requiring him to learn to speak Italian. Valentino decided it was time to make his move, and immigrated to the United States, where he continued the family's knife sharpening tradition by setting up his own knife sharpening service in Boston's historic Quincy Market. Today, Walter Maganzini, Sr. and Walter, Jr. carry on the family tradition at Market Grinding's knife sharpening facility in Raynham, Massachusetts. The company has served fine restaurants both large and small in addition to universities, health care facilities, grocery stores, meat markets and individual consumers who appreciate the contribution of sharp cutlery to their final food preparations. With the introduction of the Market Grinding Ship-In program, the skills of the craftsmen at Market Grinding are now available to cooking enthusiasts and knife aficionados throughout the United States. |
